The active ingredient in Cialis is tadalafil while the active ingredient in Levitra is Vardenafil. Tadalafil has a complex structure which helps in prolonging its duration of action. A single dose of Cialis will have an effect for about 36 hours. For it to be effective, Levitra should be taken 1 hour prior to sexual activity. This may vary from one person to the other. For Cialis, one can take the drug 12 hours prior to sexual activity. Its onset of action is 30 minutes after intake. Research has also shown that taking Cialis immediately before sex followed by stimulation makes it effective immediately.

What are the available doses of each drug?

Levitra is more potent than Cialis. This means that a low dose is required for activity than the Cialis dose. Levitra is available in 2.5, 5 and 20 mg tablets. Levitra have rounded tablets that are orange in colour. The drug has a short half-life and is easily excreted. The drug remains in the bloodstream for around 6 hours. Cialis is found in 5, 10 and 20mg.

Levitra and Cialis are not affected by most foods. They have an excellent absorption even in presence of food with moderate fat. Some studies have shown that taking high fat meals with Cialis may reduce its efficacy. Levitra is not affected by fatty foods.

Side effects and contraindications of the two drugs

Cialis and Levitra interact with nitrates and other antihypertensive. They produce massive hypotension if used together in large doses. The two drugs have reported side effects with Cialis having mild adverse effects than Levitra.
